Adria Arko started as the San Mateo County Agricultural Ombudsman in April 2015. She works out of the San Mateo County Resource Conservation Service office, where she also works as a Program Assistant. As the Agricultural Ombudsman, Adria assists local producers with the County’s permitting process, helps County staff understand agriculture in San Mateo County, and identifies opportunities to streamline the County’s permitting process. She has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Pitzer College and a master’s in Public Policy from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Adria has been involved in food systems work in California since 2009. Most recently, she worked as a Program Coordinator for Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo and as the Coordinator for the San Luis Obispo Food System Coalition.

Farmers, growers and landowners in the unincorporated areas that need zoning and planning information for agriculture projects are now able to go to Half Moon Bay to meet in person with a San Mateo County Planner. This coordinated effort between San Mateo County Supervisor Don Horsley, the San Mateo County Planning and Building Department, and the San Mateo County Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures, will allow the agriculture community of San Mateo County to speak directly with Planning staff about permits, zoning, and other planning topics. Rob Bartoli, a Planner with the County, will be staffing the San Mateo County Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures Office.
